About BCOSS
From humble beginnings to a nationwide movement — a story of God’s faithfulness among His people in South Sudan.
Who We Are
The Baptist Convention of South Sudan (BCOSS) is a fellowship of Baptist churches united by one mission — to make disciples, plant churches, and serve communities in the love of Christ.
Founded on the principles of the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19–20), BCOSS exists to glorify God by proclaiming His Word, equipping leaders, and responding to both the spiritual and physical needs of the people of South Sudan.
We are more than a denomination — we are a family of believers working together to bring light, hope, and transformation to every corner of the nation.
How It All Began
The story of BCOSS is rooted in faith, resilience, and God’s enduring grace.
During the civil war, many South Sudanese Christians found refuge in neighboring countries such as Kenya, Uganda, and Ethiopia.
It was in those refugee camps — places like Kakuma, Moyo, and Gambella — that Baptist pastors, missionaries, and believers began to gather for worship, training, and fellowship.
Through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, these gatherings grew into a united movement. When peace returned, many of those leaders felt called to return home to South Sudan — carrying with them a passion to rebuild communities and plant churches.
In 2007, the Baptist Convention of South Sudan was officially established as a national body, bringing together local Baptist congregations under one mission:
“To glorify God by spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ and serving His people.”
