Our Purpose and Strategic Objectives


The Baptist Convention of South Sudan (BCOSS) exists to strengthen, support, and empower its member churches so they can grow in spiritual maturity, expand the Gospel, and positively transform their communities.

Our objectives reflect the mission of the Convention and guide our work across leadership development, discipleship, church planting, administration, partnerships, and community service.

The objectives are grouped into three major categories:

  1. Equipping Leaders and Churches for Growth

  2. Strengthening Fellowships and Ministries

  3. Serving Churches Through Specialized Administrative Support

1. To Equip Church Leaders for Effective Ministry


BCOSS is committed to preparing pastors and church leaders to shepherd and develop strong, spiritually mature churches. This objective is fulfilled through the following efforts:


A. Empowering Pastors and Church Leaders

  • Training in theology, ministry, discipleship, and leadership

  • Workshops on pastoral care, preaching, and Christian ethics

B. Developing Regional and Association Leaders

  • Leadership development

  • Resource management training

  • Conflict resolution and peacebuilding

  • Capacity-building workshops

C. Supporting Church Growth and Church Planting

  • Providing resources and training for new church plants

  • Organizing church growth campaigns

  • Assisting regions with strategic planning

D. Strengthening Education & Training Institutions

  • Supporting Bible schools, seminaries, and training centers

  • Organizing workshops, conferences, and fellowship retreats

E. Building Local and International Partnerships

  • Partnering with churches, missions, and Baptist organizations

  • Collaborating for evangelism, discipleship, and community development

F. Producing and Distributing Christian Literature

  • Creating doctrinal resources, manuals, and teaching materials

  • Supporting publication ministries within BCOSS

2. To Strengthen Local Church Leaders and Member Churches


BCOSS exists to build strong relationships among churches and leaders, helping them grow in unity, discipleship, and ministry effectiveness.


A. Encouraging Fellowship & Ministry Among Churches

  • Church planting and discipleship

  • Mission outreaches

  • Association, regional, and national gatherings

  • Prayer retreats and leadership summits

B. Supporting Churches Through Visits & Communication

  • Conferences and field visits

  • Media outreach (radio, newspaper, TV)

  • Newsletters, SMS, and official BCOSS communications

C. Assisting with Conflict Resolution

  • Helping leaders and churches navigate disputes

  • Supporting peaceful and biblical reconciliation among churches and regions

D. Promoting Social Action & Community Support

  • Disaster response

  • Supporting vulnerable children

  • HIV/AIDS awareness

  • Advocacy for religious rights and environmental stewardship

  • Cooperation with government bodies in education, health, and welfare (without compromising biblical values)

3. To Serve Churches Through Specialized Administrative Services


A. Upholding Doctrinal and Spiritual Accountability

  • Maintaining doctrinal integrity

  • Ensuring biblical standards

  • Supporting churches through necessary disciplinary processes

B. Providing Administrative & Legal Assistance

  • Guidance on land and property matters

  • Ministerial dispute assistance

  • Access to welfare programs, scholarships, and support funds

  • Connecting churches with medical, retirement, and life insurance programs

C. Supporting Church Registration & Record Keeping

  • Assisting churches in registration processes

  • Licensing ministers

  • Maintaining a database of churches, ministers, and church properties

  • Tracking property held “in trust” when applicable

D. Mobilizing Resources for the Convention

  • Fundraising for mission and ministry efforts

  • Supporting national and regional ministry budgets

E. Advocating & Representing Churches Nationally and Internationally

  • Representing BCOSS in Baptist fellowships

  • Promoting unity with global Baptist organizations

  • Strengthening international mission partnerships

F. Engaging in Social Action During Emergencies

  • Emergency disaster response

  • Advocacy when religious rights are threatened
